Adult Lessons

These classes provide adults who did not have the opportunity to learn how to swim as a child, the chance to become more comfortable in the water. You will learn the basic skills, thus increasing your confidence in and around the water. An advanced class is also available for those who just want to refine their strokes or implement a swimming workout into their routine. Although our adult group lessons are more individualized based on the needs and past experiences of our students, we follow our swim school curriculum progression. We modify the activities for each skill to make it more age appropriate and include more information on the reasoning behind the use of each activity.

The general concept and skill progression we follow are:

  • General water comfort and safety
  • Going underwater
  • Front and back floats
  • Standing from a front and back float position
  • Movement
  • Kicking on front and back
  • Rotation from front to back, and back to front
  • Freestyle arm action
  • Backstroke arm action
  • Technique
  • Side kicking
  • Head rotation

  • Our philosophy on adult instruction is to identify each student's goals and expectations and then create a systematic approach to accomplish each one. There will more than likely be pitfalls and plateaus on the way. These will be overcome with continued practice and perseverance.

If you have had a previous experience or situation that has caused some fear or anxiety with being in the water, please let your instructor know on the first class date. This will assist them in creating a progression plan that will address those issues.

    Special Equipment Needed:

None! we will provide all necessary equipment. If you feel more comfortable wearing goggles, you are more than welcome to bring them. Many beginners are more willing, and less anxious, to put their face in the water when they can see the bottom.
