The core, basic, safety skills are taught at our Jellyfish, Goldfish and Blowfish levels. These core skills are to gain comfort and safety in the water through learning that if they were fall into a body of water they would have the ability to swim to a wall or ledge, or if they are too far from a wall or ledge, they’ll have the ability to roll on their back and independently back-float. We then teach them to have a combination of swimming and floating skills to independently move across the water.
All children must possess these skills before they move on to our Angelfish and Higher Level classes.
Jellyfish
For the beginning and nervous student. The class will introduce breath control, submersions, safety, front and back floats, and overall comfort and confidence in the water. Students in Jellyfish must demonstrate comfort in the water to progress to Goldfish.
Goldfish
Students must be comfortable being fully submerged under the water. Students work on safety, breath control, submersions and back floats. They will be introduced to rollover breathing after perfecting the back float.
Blowfish
This class is for students that have been enrolled at Starfish and have not
yet obtained the swim float swim sequence. We will focus on rollover
breathing with the ability to swim and rotate onto their back for a breath
consecutively across the pool. They will also focus on proper head position
and the building of strength to swim longer distances. Students must be
proficient and confident at swimming (face down), back floating and are able
to do a combination of swimming and floating across the pool before
advancing to the level of ANGELFISH. Children will complete a swim test
with where they will swim with their cloths on.

Angelfish
This class is for students who need to learn the proper body mechanics for
the more advanced strokes. Students will focus on having an efficient
flutter kick, over arm freestyle with hand placement and on the proficiency
of streamlining. We will also introduce balance, buoyancy and sculling
drills. Bobbing and breathing patterns are focused on in this class to
enable the child to perform rhythmic breathing. Children will begin working
with kick boards and fins. Beginning diving skills will be introduced.
Swordfish
This class is for children ready to swim the length of the pool unassisted.
This class will focus on taking all of the skills learned in ANGELFISH to
enable the child to perfect the freestyle & backstroke. Students will learn
flip turns and how to do a starting dive. They will also be introduced to
the dolphin kick. Students must be proficient with the freestyle, backstroke
and breaststroke before moving to the level of STARFISH.
Starfish
This class will focus on endurance with the freestyle, backstroke, and
breaststroke. Students will be introduced to the butterfly. Students will
continue to perfect both open and flip-turns and racing starts. They will
